Guided tour

Welcome new user! This tour should help you to understand some basic principles of finefiles

Guided tour 5/5: Run process

1 - Create a new profile
2 - Configuration / define the input section
3 - Configuration / define the inspection section
4 - Configuration / define the case action section
5 - Run the process

We have now completed the configuration. Close the configuration window and go back to the main window. Select “Process” and “Start Process” in the main menu as shown:

finefiles will open the regular Windows “Browse for folder”-dialog. Select any directory or drive you would like to examine. Press “OK” to immediately start the process:

Here is what the main window shows for our example (to make things clear, in this example there are only three files that should be performed):

Explanation: The third file is displayed in red because no MD5 hash could be found. The other files are green because there is a hash match. In the bottom line you can see that finefiles has found 2 true and 1 false files. Usually you will perform a process for hundreds and thousands of files, this is for demonstration purposes only.

Because the files are displayed as “links” you can start the video with a double click on it:

This was just a short example for the possibilities of finefiles. If you are going to plan your own configuration please keep in mind that there are two ways to reach the expected results: in a small project you define the input, carry out some inspections on the files performed and display the results for the inspected true or inspected false cases. For bigger projects it may not be possible to determine a simple true / false state, in this case you are free to exclude files during inspection, to display messages on events or to react to registers in the case action section and to completely ignore the inspection section and the results of it. You even do not have to use the inspection section if you would like to perform all files.
