Download

You can download a free version of finefiles here. This version has no banners, no adware, spyware or time limit and will not display nag messages. You can use finefiles on any computer, including a computer in a commercial organization. Optional enhancements (finefiles Pro) are available.

Current version is 3.06.0 release July, 03 2012. Please load one of the following files depending on your Windows version:

Zipped main executable + guide to run using Windows Vista or Windows 7. This free version can be updated to finefiles Pro later if you are interested. Please read this if the help file content is not displayed.

Additional files

Please note: The source code examples are displayed in html because of CR/LF compability issues. Select the text and copy & paste it to .cpp and .h files — this works in all major browsers except Firefox. The code of the following C/C++ source is free for private and commercial use.

finefiles can be expanded by so called “Plugins”, realized as Dynamic-link library (dll). Here is a simple example in C/C++ for an input plugin that checks if the filename contains the sentence “ACME”.

C/C++ example for those who want to write their own routines to access .timefiles files. finefiles stores data inside these files to realize the timeline function. The example lists the content of a given .timeline file if run on command prompt.

C/C++ example to write your own routines to access finefiles “Sidecar” files. finefiles stores data inside these files to realize the sidecar functionality. The example lists the FAT (directory) content for a file equipped with a sidecar if run on command prompt.

Place the HitchhikersGuideToFinefiles.chm inside the directory where finefiles.exe is placed to receive useful help on the program and additional information on how things work. The help also includes a guided tour through the program. Please read this if the content of the help file is not displayed.
